Family Holothuriidae

Family Holothuriidae

Family Holothuriidae are small to very large sea cucumbers which may be concealed below rocks and rubble, buried in sand or found Iying exposed. Most are more active at night. Their diversity of colour and patterning makes most species identifiable when alive, though the variations within some species can be great. For a detailed review of the family see Rowe (1969).

Remarks: Genera recognized are: Actinopyga and Bohadschia which possess only rods and Holothuria and Labidodemas which nearly always have tables among their spicules.
