H. (Metriatyla) albiventer is a sea cucumber that is green/brown above, flecked with black - below it is grey/white. It is a small to medium sized (40-130 mm.), cylindrical species with 20 tentacles and sparse papillae. Its spicules are very solid tables larger (x3) than knobbed buttons (H. albiventer spicules[/l]). It is found in silty [l][m]Glossary[/m][r]Coast[/r]coastal areas and may be dredged.
Remarks: The relatively large size of the tables of H. albiventer may serve to distinguish it from H. scabra.
