H. (Lessonothuria) verrucosa is a deep chocolate-brown sea cucumber with an upper surface often suffused with orange. It is a medium to large species (to 200 (300) mm), with a thick and cylindrical but pliable body The taller papillae above are tipped with orange, and it has a smooth tegument.
