P. rufescens is a small (100 mm), soft and wrinkled, brown or red-black sea cucumber with 18 tentacles. The spicules are wheels (P. rufescens spicules[/l]), sigmoid bodies are lacking. P. rufescens is found under rocks inshore on [l][m]Glossary[/m][r]Reef[/r]reefs and in coastal regions in tropics.
