Synaptula recta

(Semper, 1868)

S. recta is a sea cucumber of variable colour: often dark. It is a medium to large species (to 400 mm) with 13 tentacles. The spicules are anchors with knobs at their vertex, bases unbranched and small, curved, knobbly miliary bodies (S. recta spicules[/l]). It can be found on [l][m]Glossary[/m][r]Reef[/r]reefs and coastal areas, exposed on sea-grass and sand flats.

Remarks: Clark (1946) urged a revision of this genus, which has several species included. Evidently recta is by far the most common form.
